Jesus is God

Is Jesus God? This question is often asked. In this blog post, we will explore pieces of evidence and credentials of Jesus as God in his life and work on earth. If you’ve been struggling with your faith or have questions about what Christianity teaches, this blog is about to believe again. By showing Christ's love for us through His death on Calvary's cross. His death for our sins so we can live forever with Him.

Is Jesus God?

Jesus Christ was conceived by and born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and died for our sins on the cross at Calvary. After being crucified he rose from death into heaven after three days. With this act, he conquered death and demonstrated his power over sin and Satan.

Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God. He was incarnated into human flesh and sent to earth to be a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus’ testimonies are that he was a real person who walked on earth. The son of God came to give our lives meaning. He set the standard with his teachings and by living an exemplary life for what it means to live a life devoted to God and his Kingdom. As such Jesus can speak with authority about what awaits those who believe in Him.

What religion was Jesus?

Jesus was born in Bethlehem as a Jew who became the Jewish Messiah. However, the Jews did not acknowledge him as their Messiah, and so he was crucified. As a consequence, Jesus gave his kingdom to the pagans in order to become followers of him. A new theologian religion was born: Christianity. The Holy Trinity, that is, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, are one essential part of their faith.

Why Jesus is truly God?

Jesus himself said he is the ‘Son of God’. He proclaimed his divine mission:

"He who believes in me does not believe in me, but in him who sent me. As light, I have come into the world, so that no one who believes in me may remain in the darkness. For I have not spoken from myself, but the Father who sent me has commanded me what to speak and what to proclaim. What therefore I speak, that speak I even as the Father has told me." (John 12:44).

His divinity is evidenced by his sinless life, miracles, and resurrection from the dead. Jesus is one with God because he shares the same nature as God the Father.

Did Jesus say he is God?

Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." (John 14:6).

He calls himself the consubstantial Son of God: "I and the Father are one." (John 17:11).

"You are from below, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world." (John 8:23). He claims divinity being for himself: "Verily, verily I say unto you: Before Abraham was begotten I am" (John 8:58).

Jesus said, "I am come a light into the world" (John 12:46). Jesus is explicitly saying he is not just another prophet but that he has been sent by God to reveal himself as Lord and Savior.

He claimed to be “the I am”. It's not just words either. It was backed up by many miracles, like healing people from leprosy and bringing Lazarus back from death after four days.

Where in the bible does it say Jesus is God?

Jesus Christ fulfilled every Old Testament prophecy made about him. There are a number of bible verses that he claims to be God. In the New Testament but in the Old Testament as well:

"My Son you are, today I have begotten you. To you I will give the nations for an inheritance and the possession of the earth's borders." (Psalms 2:7-8).

"Behold the Lamb of God!" (John 1:29). This is how John the Baptist refers to the Messiah.

Apostles as witnesses in New Testament

There were many witnesses who had witnessed the life of Jesus. And many of these witnesses were still alive when the Gospel accounts were written and constantly read aloud in the churches.

"We have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son from the Father." (John 1:14)

John writes further: "And he who has seen this has testified to it, and his testimony is true. And this one knows that he speaks the truth, so that you may believe." (John 19:35)

"What we have heard, what we have seen with our own eyes, what we have looked upon, and what our hands have touched, these we testify. Life has appeared! We have seen it and testify to it. So we proclaim only what we have seen and heard." (John 1:1)

When Peter and John were on trial, they were offered a pardon on the condition that they keep silent from then on. Then the apostles replied, "It is impossible not to speak of what we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:20).

Does the resurrection prove Jesus is God?

Jesus' Resurrection validates his divine claim because it shows that He has power over life and death as well as all authority in heaven and earth. He was God in the flesh.

Why Jesus is the lamb of God?

Mankind could no longer make up for the depth of its original sin by itself. As a satisfaction, it needed a divine sacrifice. Hence the designation Lamb of God.  Jesus, as a man on earth, lived for 33 years. In that time he was anointed by the Holy Spirit to be like us in every way in order to fulfill His mission. Jesus' mission was to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. He would die in a sacrificial act of love and obedience. Like a lamb sacrifice. Bearing all the sin and its consequences on Himself so we could have eternal life with Him if we believe in Jesus Christ as Savior. And trust His promise that He is "the way, the truth, and the life."

Why did Jesus Christ die for me?

Jesus Christ died on the cross because we have sinned. He is our sacrifice and He took all of our sins - past, present, future - on Himself. So that we can be forgiven for asking Him to forgive us. God sent His Son into the world in order to redeem people from their lost condition and have eternal life.

Deity vs Human Being

He is divine in his essence but not divinity that can be given to others. In contrast, we are created human beings with both an eternal soul which continues on after death unto eternity and a temporary body that decays and dies. Jesus Christ is considered to be both fully God and fully man. A Deity and a human being. The eternal Son of God came to earth as a man in order to take on the nature of humans. With this incarnation, he was able to redeem humanity from sin. Jesus is divine and human at the same time, but not in such a way that he doesn't know what it's like to be a human being. His divinity did not make Him any less human than you or I are human. This can be seen in His suffering and death on Calvary's cross.

Conclusion

Jesus is God. There are a number of verses in the New Testament but in the Old Testament as well that proves this statement. Apostles and other witnesses also confirm his words to testify that he was indeed God incarnate. He said himself, "I am the way and the truth and the life." (John 14:6). So if you're looking for someone to follow - someone with power over death - Jesus Christ is your man! Believe in Him today so that you can live eternally. He is the only way to heaven! God bless you.
